MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Charges have been filed against the man police say stabbed a woman at a downtown Minneapolis parking ramp last week.

A 28-year-old woman was walking to her car in the McGladrey Plaza parking ramp when she attacked and stabbed in the abdomen at about 4 p.m. on April 19.

The woman sustained non-life threatening injuries after being stabbed in the stomach and hands, but was hospitalized at Hennepin County Medical Center.

She told police that a man had come up behind her and held a hunting knife to her throat and said they would be “going for a ride.”

The man eventually gave up after the woman started fighting back. He left, saying she was “lucky that she was a fighter.”

Later on Thursday, a man was arrested on suspicion of having stolen a woman’s purse from a downtown bar. A search of the suspect turned up items that belonged to the victim, according to the charges.

Police talked with managers at a nearby restaurant who said that they asked a man to leave because he was bothering customers. They said he asked a patron to “join a fight club.”

The managers said they believed the man was not intoxicated.

The man — 48-year-old Robert John Meyers — has been charged with first-degree assault and attempted kidnapping.

Police say Meyers is currently being held at the Hennepin County Jail.
