MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Immigration officials have arrested more than 100 people in the Upper Midwest as part of a nationwide sweep.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Monday announced the arrests of more than 3,100 immigrants who were illegally in the country and who were convicted of serious crimes or otherwise considered fugitives or threats to national security.

ICE says the sweep included every state. There were 110 arrests in the St. Paul area of operations that includes Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota. Of those arrests, 99 were convicted criminal aliens.

The government says the six-day sweep was the largest of its kind. It was the third such sweep under the program called Operation Cross Check.
