MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A St. Paul woman was acquitted Saturday night in the death of her 2-year-old son.
Twenty-four-year-old Jessica Caldwell had been charged with murder after her son, Julian Williams, suffered multiple bruises and died from internal injuries in 2009.
Caldwell’s boyfriend, Demetrius Willis, was convicted on one count of manslaughter in September.
The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Williams’ death as a homicide.
The verdict was read around 8:30 p.m. Saturday. The jury got the case around 2 p.m. on Friday and deliberated throughout the evening and all day Saturday.
Dennis Gerhardstein, of the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office, said they are disappointed with the verdict, but respect the jury’s decision.
