MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 25-year-old Wayzata man is accused of possessing marijuana and fleeing police after a drug bust at a north Minneapolis residence on Monday, according to charges filed Friday in Hennepin County Court.

Charles Joseph Kaul was charged with one felony count of fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance and a misdemeanor count of fleeing police in connection with the incident.

According to a criminal complaint, Minneapolis Police executed a search warrant at about 12:30 p.m. Monday at a residence on the 1600 block of Vincent Avenue North. Officers entered the residence with force after there was no answer at the front door.

Nobody was in the home when officers entered, and authorities located a large amount of marijuana, packaging equipment and several electronic weight measuring devices. While police were searching the house, Kaus arrived to the residence with a 21-year-old woman. Officers approached them, and Kaul fled the scene on foot, according to the complaint.

Kaus was eventually stopped and arrested. He was carrying $4,843 on him at the time of the arrest. Police also found various IDs of Kaus from several different states. Authorities seized about 2,943 grams of marijuana in the basement of the residence. There was also a 20-gauge shotgun loaded at the foot of the stairs, the complaint states.

Kaus remains in custody and faces more than five years in prison and $11,000 in fines if convicted.
