ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) – A member of the Archdiocese of Minneapolis and St. Paul has been dismissed amid allegations of a scandal involving credit card fraud, the organization confirmed Wednesday night.

Officials said a lay employee in the accounting department has been dismissed after irregularities relating to credit card transactions were identified and reported. Once the archdiocese determined the person involved, that person was immediately dismissed and the case was turned over to police.

Two sources tell WCCO the investigation is around a former top accountant at the Archdiocese, Scott Domeier.

Officials with knowledge of the case said it will not affect the Archdiocese’s ability to meet its financial obligations or any other responsibilities. That includes finances involving schools, parishes and employees.

Officials also said they are confident insurance will cover a majority of the loss associated with the credit card fraud. The case is still under investigation at this time.
