MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Two 22-year-olds have been charged with attempted murder in connection to a shooting in Minneapolis Thursday night, according to Hennepin County Attorney’s Office.

According to authorities, on the day of the incident, Minneapolis Police responded to “shots fired” at 1350 Nicollet Mall. Upon arrival, officers discovered evidence of a shooting and talked with several witnesses.

Witnesses told police that two men were firing guns at each other across the public staircase of one of the buildings located at the corner of Nicollet and Grant. In addition to providing a clothing description of the men, they said a woman was also involved in the incident.

After patrolling the area, police located a man identified as Dominique Lamer Watson, whose clothing matched the witnesses’ description. Video surveillance also confirmed Watson’s presence during the shooting.

Watson had the identification card for Tasheeka Vensythia Griffith, who witnesses said ran from the shooting with Watson before parting ways. Witnesses added that it appeared they handed something to each other.

When Griffith was later detained, police recovered a .40-caliber pistol that was loaded with a round in the chamber. Casings recovered at the scene of the shooting were .40 caliber.

Investigators were able to recover security video from the building at the scene of the shooting, which allegedly shows Watson shooting at the victim from a distance of less than 30 feet while hiding behind a pillar.

Watson and Griffith have both been charged with second-degree intentional attempted murder. If convicted, both could face up to 20 years in prison.
