GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. (AP) – Authorities are notifying residents of a Golden Valley neighborhood that a predatory offender is moving to the area.

Sixty-four-year-old Clarence Opheim has admitted to molesting 29 children, and has been civilly committed for 19 years. He’s the first person to be provisionally discharged from the Minnesota Sex Offender Program in over a decade.

He’s moving from a secure treatment facility at St. Peter to a halfway house in Golden Valley, where he’ll be strictly supervised.

The house is in the area of Zane and Highway 55.

Last month, Gov. Mark Dayton signed a bill that expanded the public notification law so it would also apply to offenders who move into residence facilities.

The community meeting is at 6 p.m. Monday in the Perpich Center for the Arts auditorium.
