MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The Memorial Day holiday weekend means BBQs and beer for a lot of people and if you’re pulled over by law enforcement, a Twin Cities attorney said there are some important things to remember.
“The police officer has to have probable cause that you were driving and probable cause for the arrest,” Bruce Rivers said.
He said you can expect to have certain tests administered.
The Preliminary Breath Test is not admissible in court, Rivers said, because it’s not reliable.
“A DWI is like a tattoo. It’s on your record forever,” Rivers said.
He said two things happen if you’re arrested for DWI.
First, you’re charged with crime and then you get your license taken away.
His best advice is to plan ahead, and not end up in the situation at all.
Rivers is host of WCCO Radio’s “Open Court.”
