MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A 35-year-old West St. Paul man is accused of cutting his girlfriend with a steak knives during an argument last week.

Raymond Everett Hill was charged with second-degree assault – a felony – in connection to the April 20, 2014 incident.

According to the criminal complaint, at 4:30 p.m., West St. Paul police officers were dispatched to the Hennepin County Medical Center on the report of a domestic violence incident. There, the female victim with cuts on her arm and face told police there was an argument between her and her boyfriend, Hill, at their apartment.

She said Hill got two steak knives during the argument and began pushing her out of the apartment while cutting her with the knives. The fight eventually calmed down and the victim returned to the apartment to grab some items. However, Hill became angry again, pushed the victim onto the bed and tried to wrap his hands around her neck, which resulted in scratches on the victim’s face, the complaint said.

When officers responded to the apartment, they were able to speak with Hill on the phone. He told police that he was in Minneapolis, but officers could hear the patio door of the apartment open. Hill was located a short distance away – with blood on his face and arms – and was arrested, the complaint said.

Hill later admitted to grabbing the knives during the argument and that the victim had gotten in the way and was cut while he was pushing her out the door, according to the complaint.

Police officers later found two steak knives in the kitchen garbage along with a cleaning towel that smelled strongly of cleaning solution.

If convicted, Hill could face a potential maximum sentence of seven years in prison and/or a $14,000 fine.
