MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A Minnesota Timberwolves player has been arrested for a second time in less than a week.

Medina Police were called to Dante Cunningham’s residence on the 400 block of Medina Road at about 3:08 a.m. Sunday on a report of a possible violation of an order for protection. It was against Cunningham after his original arrest on April 4, where had had been charged with felony domestic assault.

When authorities arrived, the victim told police that she had been receiving threatening messages from Cunningham, which violated a no contact order. When officers reviewed the messages, the threats were direct and rose to a terroristic level.

Cunningham, 26, was contacted and turned himself into police at about 11:45 a.m. Sunday. He was taken into custody without incident and turned over his cell phone and computers to investigators.

He played for the Timberwolves in Orlando on Saturday night. The NBA’s collective bargaining agreement requires the league and the Timberwolves are required to allow Cunningham to return to work while the legal process plays out.

Following the arrest, the Timberwolves released a statement saying the situation is “very fluid” and the “team does not condone the behavior described in the accusations.”

“We continue to wait for the legal process to run its course and will have further comment when appropriate,” the statement continued.

Last Thursday, Cunningham was arrested and charged with domestic assault.

Cunningham is being held without bail.
