ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) — St. Paul Police believe a hit-and-run that left a 25-year-old man seriously hurt may have been intentional.
Neighbors who witnessed what happened say it appeared that way.
The incident happened around 5 p.m. Saturday in an area close to West Seventh Street on Mercer Street.
Police arrested 36-year-old Felicia Marie Remmen a short time later on suspicion of criminal vehicular operation. The victim was identified as Ronny Allen Gray, Jr. Investigators say the two know each other.
A couple who live in the townhomes on the corner witnessed what happened and called 911.
“I heard yelling and people banging, it sounds like banging in cars,” Amy Boche said.
She and her husband, Jeff Boche, looked out their window and saw two vehicles stopped in the street.
“I saw a man in front of the car yelling at whoever was inside the car. At that time, the car started to creep forward and it kept going and going,” he said.
Jeff said the man wound up on the hood of the car.
“The car sped off and it probably went 50 or 75 feet and the guy fell off the hood and hit his head really hard on the ground,” he said.
He watched the driver head down past the nursing home.
The couple ran out to help.
“He was bleeding so badly I ran to get a towel,” Amy said.
She said she noticed several kids in the other car.
“The little boy was like, ‘My daddy just got hit,’ so he saw something or saw it happen,” she said.
Gray was taken to Regions Hospital where he was initially in critical condition. His condition was upgraded to serious Sunday afternoon.
Police believe alcohol may have been a factor.
No word from investigators on what the two were arguing about that led to this.
