MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A 32-year-old St. Paul woman has been sentenced to prison for her role in a wide-ranging identity theft ring.

In Ramsey County District Court Thursday morning, Shauntell Burg was sentenced to 88 months – over seven years — in prison. She pleaded guilty in October 2013 to one count of identity theft.

Burg and three other women were arrested after a string of ID thefts that targeted retired state employees.

Ramsey County Attorney John Choi says one of the women, 50-year-old Roxanne Deflorin, is a former state employee who had access to those employees’ social security numbers.

Deflorin was convicted of identity theft on Jan. 22 and will be sentenced on March 14.

The other two women, 40-year-old Kristin Warren and 30-year-old Andrea Gunderson, both pleaded guilty to identity theft and were sentenced to over six years in prison.

“This case was made possible due to the hard work of law enforcement, in particular the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Department, Minnesota Financial Crimes Taskforce and the financial fraud unit in my office,” Choi said. “The defendants caused havoc and significant concern for the personal identities of hundreds of hard-working employees and retirees.”

In addition to prison time, Burg was ordered to pay $149,000 in restitution.
