MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Minneapolis police union won’t fight the firing of two officers caught on camera using racial slurs, WCCO-TV learned Wednesday night.
Minneapolis Police Chief Janeé Harteau terminated SWAT officers Brian Thole and Shawn Powell last week after the two got into a confrontation in Green Bay, Wis., last summer.
Sources say that the Police Officers Federation of Minneapolis voted Wednesday not to file a grievance to fight Harteau’s decision.
Both men are military veterans. They have two months to decide if they’ll challenge the firing under the Veterans Preference Act.
Both get their full-time pay until then.
