MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Hikers, hunters and other outdoor enthusiasts are asked to be mindful of an investigation into the disappearance of a 24-year-old woman, who’s been missing since May, as they’re out along the Mississippi River in central Minnesota.

The Eden Prairie Police Department said Monday that a strong area of interest in the search for Mandy Matula is on a stretch of the Mississippi River, from the Sartell Dam in the south to the Mississippi River County Park in the north.

The map below shows the area of interest, which is on the border of Stearns and Benton counties. (Zoom out to see the full area of interest).

Eden Prairie Police say they’ve searched for Matula with the help of law enforcement officials across the state, but they wanted to remind the public to be aware of the situation as the fall hunting season begins.

Matula has been missing since the evening of May 1, when she was last seen with David Roe.

Roe, who once dated Matula, was a primary suspect in the investigation. He shot himself in the head, however, in the Eden Prairie Police Department parking lot before police could question him. He died days later.

Anyone with information on Matula’s whereabouts is asked to call the Eden Prairie Police Department at 952-949-6200.
