MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 22-year-old Hastings man is accused of assaulting a police officer who was responding to a call of a violation of an order for protection, according to charges filed Monday in Dakota County Court.
Kevon Richard Kelleher was charged with fourth-degree assault, violation of an order for protection and fleeing a peace officer in the case.
According to the charges, Hastings Police were called at about 7:39 p.m. on April 22 on a report of a possible violation of an order for protection. Upon investigation, authorities discovered that the victim, Kelleher’s minor child, had had a FaceTime conversations with Kelleher.
Under the order for protection terms, the conversations between the two were to happen only between 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Sundays. A check of the child’s phone showed the two had made contact at 6:08 p.m. on a Monday, the complaint states.
Police went to Kelleher’s home, and when he arrived seeing police there, he attempted to flee from the scene. Officers caught him and a struggle ensued, where Kelleher hit an officer and broke the officer’s nose. The officer had blood streaming down his face immediately after being hit, according to the complaint.
A look at Kelleher’s criminal history shows he had a 2009 conviction for domestic violence in 2009 involving terroristic threats.
