MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO/AP) — Police have identified the 19-year-old driver they say caused a serious crash with an Amish buggy that sent nine people to the hospital.

According to the Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office, Bradey A. Engen was driving north on U.S. Highway 53/121 around 10:20 p.m. Friday when the vehicle struck the rear end of a buggy traveling with nine occupants.

All occupants of the buggy, including a 37-year-old man, a 38-year-old woman and their seven children, suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash.

Police say inattentive driving by Engen was a factor in the crash.

Engen was not injured in the crash. He was previously convicted of three traffic violations, including two speeding tickets and a violation for failing to report an accident.

The adults in the buggy were identified as David Wengerd and Lydia Wengerd, both of Osseo. The children were not identified.

Authorities say the case will be forwarded to the Trempealeau County District Attorney’s Office for review.
