MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A man convicted of attempted first-degree murder in a violent downtown Minneapolis parking ramp stabbing will spend 20 years in prison.

Robert John Meyers, 48, was convicted of attempted first-degree murder in connection with the incident, which happened in the spring of 2012. He was acquitted by the same jury of attempted first-degree criminal sexual conduct, and that jury couldn’t reach a verdict on attempted kidnapping.

Meyers got the maximum sentencing, according to state guidelines.

According to court documents, Meyers came up from behind a woman in a downtown Minneapolis parking ramp and put a knife to her throat. He told the woman they were going for a ride. She screamed, bit Meyers’ finger and kicked him until he eventually left. She got into her car and saw that she had been stabbed.

The victim needed surgery for a punctured liver.
