MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities say one person was seriously hurt after being hit by a car in a hit-and-run crash in Columbia Heights Friday morning, and police are looking for the driver.

The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office said the incident happened at about 1:45 a.m. Friday near the intersection of 53rd Street and Central Avenue. Witnesses at the scene told authorities that traffic heading southbound on Central Avenue had a green light to go through the intersection when a man tried to cross by going against a “Do Not Walk” sign. The man, a 35-year-old from Brooklyn Center, was hit by a white or silver passenger car.

Authorities say the driver of the car did not stop at the scene and continued driving. Authorities don’t have any other identification of the car at this time.

The victim was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he has serious but not life-threatening injuries. The Minnesota State Patrol, Anoka County Sheriff’s Office and Columbia Heights Police are investigating the incident. Anyone with information about what happened is asked to call the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office or Columbia Heights Police at (763) 427-1212.
