MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – An Amber Alert has been issued for an 8-month-old boy allegedly abducted from the city’s southeast end.
Police said the boy was believed to be abducted around 11:55 a.m. Wednesday while the mother was taking a shower in her apartment on the 2100 block of Portland Avenue South.
The mother told police she left the child, identified as Carlos Orozco, in his car seat inside the apartment. When she got out of the shower, the child was gone.
Police initially said this was a stranger abduction but have since said that is not true.
They say they are looking for a woman named Isabell Diaz Castillo. She recently met the child’s mother and police believe she grabbed the boy around noon. Castillo also has a 12-year-old boy named Marco.
Police believe the 12-year-old boy entered the apartment shortly before the abduction.
Castillo is described as a Latino woman, with black hair and brown eyes, about 5-foot-4, with a light build. She was allegedly wearing a black hoodie when she was last seen around 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Police say she could be driving a 2002 red Kia Sportage with front-end damage with the Minnesota license plate 242 GAU.
Minneapolis Police Homicide Unit investigators are already assigned to the case and are asking for the public’s help in locating the boy.
Orozco is described as wearing a onesie with a blue and white body and red sleeves. On the chest of the onesie is a logo that reads “#1 Slugger.”
Neighbors of the family say they have a total of five kids. One neighbor said they heard a car engine revving around 11:30 a.m.
Police have a K9 unit sniffing the area.
Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
The abduction happened in the city’s 3rd precinct, which covers the area south of Interstate 94 and east of Interstate 35W.
