MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Crime in Minneapolis remains among the lowest levels in decades, but there was a slight uptick in violent crime this year.
Although the final numbers for 2012 won’t be available for a couple weeks, overall crimes committed in the city is up less than 1 percent over 2011.
Violent crimes, however, are up, nearly 8 percent.
Police say most of the violence happened in the first few months before a dramatic improvement.
Mayor R.T. Rybak and the police chief plan to discuss strategies that have been successful and city’s ongoing public safety challenges after the New Year.
