MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A district court judge sentenced two men Monday to years of prison time after both pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute meth, the Department of Justice said.

Judge John R. Tunheim sentenced 23-year-old Jesus Gaxiola-Guevara to five years in prison and 28-year-old Martin Gutierrez-Alarcon to 10 years in prison. Both were indicted in June and pleaded guilty on July 18 to one count of conspiracy.

In their pleas, the two admitted to conspiring to sell meth between February 2012 and May 2012. Gaxiola-Guevara said he would get the meth from suppliers in Mexico and then pass it along to local distributors, like Gutierrez-Alarcon, the department said.

Dan Moren, of the DEA’s Minneapolis-St. Paul field office, said Gaxiola-Guevara and Gutierrez-Alarcon were linked to the Sinaloa Drug Cartel. The two were originally arrested after a May 15 traffic violation led police to find $74,980 in Gaxiola-Guevara’s car.
