MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A 25-year-old man was sentenced to more than 18 years in prison Wednesday for the attempted murder of a 28-year-old man at the Cherokee Tavern last November.
Stanaley Yoeun was convicted of shooting a man in the chest, which lacerated the victim’s liver, collapsed his lung, damaged his diaphragm and caused significant internal bleeding. The man underwent several surgeries and was unconscious for two weeks.
His recovery took several months.
Police responded to the shooting at Cherokee Tavern, located at 886 Smith Ave. South in West St. Paul at 2:15 a.m. on Nov. 16, 2011. When they arrived, they found the St. Paul man with a bulletwound in his chest.
Yoeun had fled the scene. When police went to his home, located on the 800 block of Hubbard Street, they tried to arrest Yoeun but he wouldn’t leave his home or come to his door.
The Dakota County Attorney’s Office charged Yoeun with one count of second-degree attempted murder, one count of first-degree assault and one count of second-degree assault.
The investigation revealed that the victim had been dating Yoeun’s former girlfriend at the time of the shooting.
