CHASKA, Minn. (WCCO) – The Police Chief of Chaska has distributed a link to a graphic instructional video depicting a workplace shooting spree.

The YouTube video, which credits indicate was funded by the Department of Homeland Security in Houston, shows a detailed dramatization of what could happen if a gunman started shooting in an office building.

“It may feel like just another day in the office,” the narrator of the video says. “But sometimes bad people do bad things.”

The video was posted online after the recent Aurora, Colo. movie theater shooting spree that left 12 people dead and many others wounded.

Chaska Police Chief Scott Knight send the link in a weekly newsletter with a “viewer discretion advised” warning, saying: “We offer this link to this educational video for your consideration, because unfortunately these types of violent events are not uncommon.”

The video — which is titled “Run. Hide. Fight.” — offers a number of tips to people should they ever find themselves in a situation similar to other recent spree killings. Among the tips are things like running away as a primary strategy, silencing your cell phone if you are forced to hide, and improvising weapons to disarm the shooter if there are no other alternatives.

“While it is our hope that you will never find yourself in such a situation, we feel it is important for us to pass this information on to you,” wrote Knight.
