BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. (AP) – The new head of the FBI office overseeing Minnesota and the Dakotas says battling terrorism and cybercrime will be among his top priorities.

Chris Warrener took over as special agent in charge of the FBI’s Minneapolis division a month ago.

In an interview with The Associated Press Friday, Warrener says he’s a good fit for this office, and likes the diversity of challenges he’ll face — in everything from counterterrorism and white collar crime to issues in Indian Country.

He plans to continue outreach in many communities, including the Somali community, which grabbed headlines in recent years after more than 20 young Somali men left Minnesota to support the terror group al-Shabab in Somalia.

Warrener has been with the FBI since 1988, and most recently ran the terrorist financing section of the bureau’s counterterrorism division.
