MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 19-year-old man was sentenced 15 years in prison Thursday in Hennepin County Court in connection with the murder of a teenage girl in Brooklyn Park back in July.
Kivian Heard pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the July 7 incident where Jennifer Scott was killed at an apartment complex.
According to a criminal complaint, Brooklyn Park Police were called to the apartment complex on July 7 and found Scott outside her car dead with a gunshot wound to her head. Heard had been with her that night, and Scott was going to have him and DeShawn Brasson a ride home when Heard decided to rob her.
He first pistol-whipped Scott, then claimed the gun went off accidentally. In addition to the 15-year prison sentence, Heard will spend five years on supervised release after his term expires.
