BURNSVILLE, Minn. (WCCO) — A 33-year-old Burnsville man faces numerous felonies after he allegedly kicked the child seat that a 6-month-old baby was sitting in, according to police.

Abdulkadir Sheikh Mahmoud was charged with felonies of third-degree assault, malicious punishment of a child, pattern of stalking conduct and one misdemeanor count of domestic assault.

According to the criminal complaint, on May 24, Burnsville police were dispatched to a residence on a report of an assault on a 6-month-old baby. When cops arrived, they encountered Mahmoud, who was allegedly intoxicated and holding the baby.

The baby’s mother then told police that she and Mahmoud had been arguing, during which Mahmoud became angry and kicked the baby seat. That caused the seat to flip over and the mother’s daughter landed on her face on the floor, the complaint says.

The mother was afraid the child would die, so she called 911. The paramedics observed the child, who had a purple bruise on her right cheek.

The victim’s mother told officers that Mahmoud had assaulted her at least 15 times in the past, with the last attack occurring two days before the May 24 incident. She showed police bruises on her upper left arm and her right side.

If convicted of the charges, Mahmoud faces a potential maximum sentence of more than 20 years in prison and/or fines totaling over $40,000.
