MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A St. Paul nurse has been sentenced to four years probation for stealing a painkiller from patients at an assisted living facility where he once worked.
Thirty-six-year-old Travis Bourbonnais was sentenced Wednesday in federal court on one count of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud.
As part of his probation, Bourbonnais has to stay in a halfway house for six months and complete 100 hours of community service.
In his plea agreement, Bourbonnais admitted that from May to August 2010, he stole Vicodin and created a fraudulent narcotics book to hide the missing drugs.
Prosecutors say the stolen pills often came from inventory intended to be destroyed or from medication orders that exceeded what the patients really needed.
