HASTINGS, Minn. (WCCO) – A St. Paul man is charged with threatening to drive a stolen car into a brick wall at 90 miles per hour with two women inside.

According to charges filed in Dakota County, 36-year-old Jayson Robert Vanbeek allegedly admitted to the two women that he had stolen the black, four-door vehicle they were riding in during the April 15 incident.

Both women told police that when they told him they wanted to get out of the car, he started to “freak out,” and told them he was going to drive the car straight into a wall at 90 miles per hour.

One of the two women told police she believed he would, “because he drives crazy.”

The women told police that one of them pulled the emergency break in order to stop the car. She then threw the key out into the woods nearby so that he couldn’t start the car back up, the complaint says.

Upon being arrested in West St. Paul, Vanbeek told officers he had been fighting with one of the women all day. He said she was mad at him because he wouldn’t give her any meth.

He claimed he had gotten the stolen car from the woman.

Vanbeek is charged with making terroristic threats and with motor vehicle theft.
