LAKEVILLE, Minn. (WCCO) – A 19-year-old Lakeville man is accused of breaking into a home while intoxicated and tampering with electronics in the home while trying to find water, according to charges filed Friday in Dakota County Court.

Anthony Garon Reme was charged with first-degree burglary of an occupied dwelling, tampering with a motor vehicle and minor consumption of alcohol in connection with the incident, which happened Saturday.

According to the charges, Lakeville Police were called to a home on the 19000 block of Iteri Avenue on a report of an unknown man inside the residence. When authorities arrived, the garage door to the residence was open, two cars were parked in the driveway and it appeared that they had both been tampered with.

A homeowner told police that his wife woke him up at about 4 a.m. because she heard noise downstairs. The homeowner went to see what was going on and spotted a man later identified as Reme standing at his refrigerator, the complaint states. The homeowner asked Reme what he was doing and he responded “water bottle. I’m looking for a water bottle, my friend Zack told me I could get a water bottle. Zack said I could walk in.”

Officers searched Reme and found the homeowner’s car keys in his back pocket. Reme took a preliminary breath test, which came back with a blood alcohol level of .22, according to the complaint.

Reme told police he thought the residence was his friend Jake’s house. He then said he entered the house through an unlocked garage and stayed in the kitchen. He also found a set of car keys and put them in his pocket, but did not know why. He said he entered the house with two friends, but couldn’t be consistent on which two friends he was with, the complaint states.

Officers also observed that a portable Sony DVD player had been removed from a vehicle and several electronic items were on the center island in the kitchen. A GPS was also in the walk-in pantry of the kitchen.

If convicted on all charges, Reme faces more than 20 years in prison and $37,000 in fines.
