WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minn. (WCCO) – Police in White Bear Lake are investigating after they say a fifth grade student was approached by a stranger with a gun Thursday afternoon.
The incident happened at about 8:50 a.m. near the area of 6th Street and Wood Avenue in White Bear Lake. The student, a fifth grader at Lincoln Elementary School, was approached by a man in a vehicle. The driver stopped his vehicle on the street opposite of where the student was walking.
The student was on their way to school when the driver started speaking to the student from his vehicle and appeared to display a handgun. The two spoke for a brief time before the man drove off and left the area, police said.
The student continued onto school and reported the incident to officials there.
There were no further threats to the student involved or the school, and no lock down of the school as a result of the incident was deemed necessary.
Police describe the suspect vehicle as a dark blue minivan in rough condition. The suspect is described as a white man in his early to middle 30s with short, black hair and wearing a stocking cap and gray, baggy shirt.
The staff at Lincoln Elementary School sent out a letter to parents of students notifying them of the incident and to be on alert of any possible suspicious activity.
