MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Police have arrested and charged a suspect Wednesday for robbing a white Pontiac Grand Am right off a Brooklyn Center Cars for Courage lot.

Police say they arrested 34-year-old Jerome William Darkow on Wednesday after they saw him driving the same car used in the auto theft: a white pickup truck with a black rear tow bar.

According to the criminal complaint, police have had experience with Darkow and knows he often tows older model vehicles and sells them for scrap.

After waiving his Constitutional rights per Miranda, Darkow at one point allegedly denied stealing a white Grand Am. The officer who conducted the interview reported that at no time during the interview had he said what color the car was.

The missing car has yet to be located.

Darkow is in custody and has been charged with one felony count of theft of a motor vehicle. If convicted, Darkow could spend up to 5 years in prison and/or be fined $10,000.

Cars for Courage is a program that benefits the Courage Center in Minneapolis. Profits from donated cars go directly to rehabilitation for people with disabilities.
