MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A Hennepin County Grand Jury returned a first-degree murder indictment against a Minneapolis teenager in the 2011 summer shooting death of 13-year-old Rayjon Gomez.
Donquarius Davon Copeland, 17, was indicted for first-degree murder and first-degree murder while committing a drive-by shooting. The grand jury, which was convened by the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office, also returned two counts of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder while committing a drive-by shooting against Copeland for shooting at two other boys who were with Gomez on Aug. 24.
The grand jury returned the indictments last week but they were unsealed Tuesday. Copeland currently is in custody in the Anoka County Workhouse for second-degree assault on a different case.
“While all murders are tragic, it seems even more heart-breaking when boys are shooting other youths,” Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said.
