WAYZATA, Minn. (WCCO) – A jewelry store in Wayzata has been burglarized for the second time in six weeks.

The owner of Graham Jewelers in Wayzata said thieves broke in overnight but didn’t manage to steal very much of any value, apart from a few fake rings.

The owner said he puts all of the valuable jewelry in a vault overnight, as his insurance requires it.

Six weeks ago, a similar incident happened at Graham Jewelers. Police made an arrest in a previous Wayzata jewelry theft, which they thought was connected to the earlier burglary at Graham.

On Thursday, the police department said they don’t believe the new burglary is connected with the January 25 incident.

Virgil Kirkwood was accused of taking goods from Shelly Storch Fine Jewelry on Wayzata Boulevard back in November. Police said surveillance video from the store showed Kirkwood breaking into a jewelry case.

They say while he was doing that he cut himself. Investigators sent blood from the scene to the crime lab. DNA testing showed the blood belonged to Virgil Kirkwood.

Police were working to tie Kirkwood to other recent jewelry store robberies.
