ST. PAUL (WCCO) – The family of a man killed in an apparent homicide in St. Paul has released a statement, calling the victim “deeply loved.”
The statement confirmed the victim’s identity as 38-year-old Andrew William Braun.
Officials said the incident occurred just before 2 a.m. on the 700 block of Lawson Avenue East in St. Paul. Braun was found unresponsive on the front porch. There were reportedly visible signs of a struggle.
Neighbors said they didn’t hear anything, but have seen people coming and going at different times of the day.
Braun’s family discussed the victim’s past battles with drug addiction and legal problems, but noted “he was a deeply loved father, son, nephew, cousin, friend, and loved one who once was a little boy from the east side with a big heart and curious spirit.”
The statement also said, “We should not ignore the underlying fear that consumes the entire neighborhood where Andy lived — a neighborhood held hostage by murderous thugs who are using what they did to Andy to strike fear and gain power.”
Police haven’t said whether they have a suspect in custody or a description of what they believe happened.
