MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A 55-year-old Andover man who was allegedly set on fire by his roommate has died from his injuries, the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday.
On Tuesday, officers were called to the 1300 block of 137th Lane NW in Anoka County at about 9:40 p.m. on a possible house fire. When authorities arrived, they found the 55-year-old victim who had been severely burned inside the home. He was identified Thursday as Scott David Yorek.
Authorities said Yorek had been allegedly doused with an accelerant and set on fire by his 29-year-old roommate, who was also his landlord. The suspect had fled the scene by the time officers arrived.
Earlier in the night, officers were at the residence for a dispute between the two, but no crime had been committed and the two agreed to separate for the night.
Before his death Thursday, Yorek was taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center in critical condition with burns covering 80 percent of his body.
Police sent out an alert for the suspect after it was learned he had access to a cabin near Orr, Minn.
The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office located the suspect, identified as Adam John Lilienthal, and took him into custody. Lilienthal also suffered minor burns to his face, authorities said.
The incident remains under investigation.
