MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A 23-year-old man was arrested last week after police say he was swerving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed — at one point, hitting 146 mph — while on a motorcycle.

An officer reported seeing Tyler Joseph Gese, of Lindstrom, speeding excessively and driving very close to other vehicles around 6 p.m. last Wednesday on Highway 8.

Police say Gese was going 94 mph when he pulled out to pass a vehicle in oncoming traffic.

The officer was in an unmarked squad and said he then clocked Gese accelerating from 113 mph to 146 mph and activated his emergency lights.

The officer called Polk County for assistance and a short time later, was alerted that Gese had been pulled over just south of Balsam Lake.

Gese told the officers he was going to see his son.

Gese was placed under arrest for possible charges of recklessly endangering safety, speeding and passing into oncoming traffic.

Officers say several other vehicles had called in complaints regarding a motorcycle with the same description as Gese’s.

Gese was transported to Polk County Jail. Upon arrival, he told officers his speedometer did not work properly and he didn’t realize he was going that fast. He said he’s previously driven his motorcycle near 200 mph on a track.
