MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A 35-year-old Minneapolis man was sentenced to more than 25 years in prison for shooting a 4-year-old boy and two others last June, according to the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office.
Deontray Vershon Tate was convicted on two counts of first-degree assault in March for a shooting that happened on the morning of June 25, 2013.
Tate fired a handgun several times at an SUV at close range, which was stopped near the 3600 block of Penn Avenue North in Minneapolis. One man was shot in the buttock and upper thigh, and a second man was struck once below the knee.
A 4-year-old boy in the backseat was shot in the lower leg, which later required surgery to realign a bone.
Hennepin County District Court Judge Fred Karasov gave Tate 17 years solely for shooting the boy.
