MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A 28-year-old Park Rapids woman is accused of tying up and abandoning two horses that died of apparent starvation near Dorset, Minn.

On Monday, Minden Crenshaw appeared in Hubbard County District Court on felony charges of animal neglect.

Authorities say on April 12, the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office received a report of two dead horses tied to a tree in the woods near Dorset. Upon arrival, deputies found the two dead young horses.

An investigation determined there was no shelter for the horses for three months and that the horses hadn’t been given water or food since April 1.

Crenshaw later admitted to owning the horses and tying them to a tree in a neighbor’s property when her mother refused to let her have the horses at home. When she moved out of her mother’s house in early April, she admitted to abandoning the horses. She told authorities that she didn’t have any transportation to get back to the horses after moving out.

Crenshaw was arrested by deputies at her residence on April 19.

If convicted, Crenshaw could face up to 2 years in prison and a $5,000 fine per charge.
