MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities said a standoff with police that lasted more than two hours Tuesday afternoon ended peacefully with the arrest of a 26-year-old man.
The incident started with St. Cloud Police attempting a felony traffic stop on a vehicle occupied by a man who had an active warrant for a narcotics probation violation. When officers stopped the vehicle, the suspect did not comply with demands and a standoff ensued.
A SWAT team and tactical negotiators were called to the scene, and after two-and-a-half hours, the suspect surrendered to police. Authorities said a female passenger in the car was released at the scene as was not injured in the standoff.
Police temporary evacuated homes in the area of the standoff. Authorities identified the suspect as Juanel Anthony Mikulak. The case remains under investigation. St. Cloud Police were assisted at the scene by the Waite Park Police Department, the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office and the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.
