MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Scott Leitz, the interim CEO of MNsure, has a DWI charge against him stemming from last summer, officials say.
MNsure spokeswoman Jenni Bowring-McDonough said Friday night that Leitz, 47, faces a DWI charge from last August in Minneapolis. She added that the MNsure board of directors knew about the arrest when he became the interim CEO late last year.
“I consider this one of the biggest mistakes I’ve ever made,” said Leitz in a statement. “It is humiliating and, as with any mistake, I will learn from it and will not repeat it.”
Leitz became the head of MNsure following the abrupt resignation of April Todd-Malmlov in December. She had faced criticism over MNsure’s website roll-out and an ill-timed international vacation.
Since Leitz came to lead MNsure, the organization’s online insurance exchange has improved and his communication has been open and transparent, according to MNsure’s board chair and vice chair.
“We value his leadership as we continue to make progress for Minnesotans,” the two said in a statement.
Leitz remains to be convicted of the DWI charge.
