MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 32-year-old Wyoming, Minn. man pleaded guilty Thursday to a hit-and-run crash that killed an Army veteran last June.

Derek Sanders pleaded guilty to one count of felony criminal vehicular homicide while under the influence of alcohol. When questioned by authorities, Sanders said he had about “half a dozen drinks” on June 17 — the night of the crash.

Sanders is accused of killing 24-year-old Trevor Langlois, who is also from Wyoming.

According to police, Sanders struck Langlois as he was pulled over on a freeway entrance ramp to Interstate 35 in Hinckley. A witness said they were stopped on the side of the road and Langlois was outside his vehicle when he was hit. Sanders fled the scene.

Emergency crews brought Langlois to a hospital in Duluth, where he died a few days later on June 22.

Investigators had been searching for a vehicle matching the debris left at the scene when they received a tip that led them to Sanders.

Sanders will be sentenced on May 29.
