MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — An 84-year-old man accused of shooting and killing his son is now in police custody, after being hospitalized with self-inflicted wounds to the chest and neck.

Authorities say Pang Se Vang was booked into custody at 7 a.m. Wednesday, after being released from Regions Hospital.

The incident started just before noon on Monday when police were called to a home on the 1800 block of County Road B East in Maplewood.

A family member called 911 to tell police that Pang Vang shot his son, 36-year-old Chue Vang and then barricaded himself in the home.

When Maplewood Police and Ramsey County SWAT entered the home to try and remove the victim, they found Pang Vang in a nearby bedroom with apparent self-inflicted stab wounds. He was transported to Regions Hospital in critical condition.

The body of Chue Vang was taken to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office. His death has been ruled a homicide with the cause being a single shotgun wound to the chest.

Investigators will submit the case to the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office for consideration of possible charges.
