MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities said two people are dead and a sheriff’s deputy was hurt after an officer-involved shooting on Monday in northwestern Minnesota.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was called to a residence on 50th Ave. in Hudson Township at about 9:17 p.m. on a report of a suspicious vehicle in a driveway. When officers arrived, two people were inside the vehicle and one of the occupants fired at the deputy, hitting him in the chest. The officer returned fire, and the suspects fled the area.
Authorities said the vehicle traveled a short distance before getting stuck in the snow, and the suspects fled on foot. After a detailed search, the two suspects were found dead in the deep snow near an outhouse. Officers found a firearm near both of their bodies.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said the officer involved was wearing a bullet resistant vest and was treated for injuries at the Douglas County Hospital and released.
The names of the officer and two suspects involved have not been released. The incident is under investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
