ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) — A St. Paul man and former boxer has been charged with the stabbing death of a co-worker at a Newport business on Thursday.
According to the Washington County Attorney’s office, 58-year-old Gregorio Ramirez is charged with 2nd-degree murder.
He’s accused of killing his co-worker, 44-year-old Uriel Ortiz, at Bailey Nurseries early Thursday evening.
A witness told police Ramirez asked Ortiz for a ride home, but the victim refused. The witness left the room, but when they returned soon after they found Ortiz on his back in a pool of blood.
Ramirez turned himself in to St. Paul Police and the knife believed to be the murder weapon has been found.
He was a member of Cuba’s national boxing team from 1979 until 1985, but did not participate in the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow or the 1984 games in Los Angeles. Ramirez was also a former boxing instructor at Next Level Combat in Woodbury.
