MANKATO, Minn. (WCCO) – A veteran has been found mentally incompetent to stand trial for first- and second-degree murder and attempted murder charges.
According to the Blue Earth County Attorney’s office, 25-year-old Levi Spencer Minissale is accused of stabbing 20-year-old Yesenia Gonzalez to death, as well as stabbing a 26-year-old man on the night of June 6, 2013 in Mankato.
A court-ordered psychiatrist determined Minissale to be “mentally ill or mentally deficient,” and should be civilly committed as a mentally ill and dangerous individual.
Minissale, who is currently being held in the Blue Earth County Jail, is described as “grossly disorganized,” and experiences auditory hallucinations that have “directed him to engage in bizarre behavior,” according to the criminal complaint. He has also threatened to kill other inmates and staff.
He will be transferred from the Blue Earth County Jail to the St. Peter Regional Treatment Center until he is deemed fit to stand trial.
