MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A jury convicted a 29-year-old man of murder for stabbing his friend on a Minneapolis parking ramp in September, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office said.
The jury found Kevin Lamont Mims guilty of second-degree murder. The jury returned its verdict Thursday afternoon.
The jury also found Mims guilty of second-degree assault for stabbing another man.
According to the criminal complaint, Mims picked up three friends on the evening of Sept. 11, parked at a ramp at 318 2nd Avenue North and went to the Envy Club in downtown Minneapolis. Later, at approximately 3 a.m., the four returned to the car. There, Mims began to argue with the front seat passenger.
The argument turned into a scuffle, and Brian Dean Nelson, who was sitting in the back seat, got out of the car and attempted to pull Mims off his passenger.
It was at this point that Mims pulled out a scissors and stabbed his passenger in the arm and Nelson in the heart.
Nelson was 20-years-old.
Mums is set to be sentenced on March 1.
