MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 21-year-old man was arrested Wednesday night for driving a snowmobile drunk and crashing into an ice fishing house on a western Wisconsin lake, leaving a female passenger dead, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities were called to the scene at about 10:03 p.m. Wednesday on Bone Lake, which is of Luck, Wis., in Polk County. When authorities arrived, a snowmobile had crashed into an ice fishing house and the female victim had suffered severe head injuries. After attempting CPR on the victim, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said she was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Authorities said two snowmobiles were riding together and headed northbound on Bone Lake traveling between islands and the shore when one of the snowmobiles hit an ice shack owned by a man from Luck, Wis. The male driver, identified as Nicholas Krenz of St. Croix Falls, Wis., was arrested at the scene for operating a snowmobile while intoxicated.

The name of the female victim, who is 20 years old, has not been released. What led up to the crash is still under investigation by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Wisconsin DNR.
