MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A crowded Twin Cities Target store was held up Thursday night and the robber is still missing.

As customers waited to pick up their prescriptions at the SuperTarget at 1750 South Robert Street in West St. Paul, a gunman came to the front of the line and demanded drugs.

“That’s what was unusual about that, just with the amount of people inside the store and how brazen this individual was to get his hands on the pills,” said. Lt. Brian Sturgeon with West St. Paul Police.

It happened just before 6 p.m., when police say the store was “very busy”. The Target employees immediately put the store on lockdown, but the man was still able to get away.

“At this time we don’t know exactly how much was stolen,” Sturgeon said.

“I was shocked, totally shocked,” said Judy Witte, a regular at the store. “This store isn’t where you’d expect something like that to happen.”

“Going shopping today, yeah it definitely crosses your mind,” said Lynn Joswiak, another shopper. “You think about your family, and I was grateful I was not in the store yesterday or anybody that, you know, I care about was there.”

Police are working with store security to enhance the quality of the store’s video surveillance, and to create a concrete description of the thief.

The surveillance is not being released at this time. No one was hurt in the incident.

“I certainly hope that it doesn’t happen in the future,” Witte said.
