MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities said Friday they are investigating two more robberies near the University of Minnesota this week and two arrests have been made in connection with a Nov. 20 incident.
Police said a U of M student was the victim of an attempted robbery and assault at about 11:55 p.m. Thursday near the CVS Pharmacy at 15th Avenue SE and 4th Street SE. The victim was walking eastbound on 4th Street SE when a suspect approached him and knocked him to the ground. The suspect told the victim he had a gun and punched him in the face.
Two additional suspects attempted to take the victim’s wallet and all three fled the scene when a witness approached. The victim was not seriously hurt and didn’t have any property taken as a result.
Police said the suspect who punched the victim is described as a black male about 20 years old and 6 feet tall with a light build. He was wearing a purple and green straight-brimmed hat, a black jacket and dark jeans. All three suspects were seen getting into a white four-door sedan behind the CVS Pharmacy.
Authorities also said they stopped a robbery in progress at about 2 a.m. Wednesday just north of Dinkytown where two suspects were taken into custody.
Police said the second and third suspects in a Nov. 20, 2013, robbery near the U of M were taken into custody this week as well. The second suspect was located in north Minneapolis and taken into custody, while the third was arrested in the parking lot of a Bloomington Hotel.
