MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Looking for a way to overcome some of this year’s problems, a citizens advisory council presented a plan Wednesday for Minneapolis police for 2014.
Chief Janeé Harteau assembled the 50 member group this year to improve relations between the police department and the community.
Members of the group presented ideas they say will make the department better.
“The Minneapolis police officers will receive four hours of customer service training that focuses on listening, de-escalation and building trust,” said Shane Zahn, of the Minneapolis Downtown Improvement District.
“How is this different?” he added. “This is community based training. It’s from the outside looking in versus the inside looking out.”
They will make sure their ideas are implemented while looking for new ways to improve relations.
